Slayers 2 Breathing Style Tier List - All 8 Styles Ranked

Slayers 2 breathing style tier list for the v.09 patch: all 8 styles ranked with trainer costs, plus a version warning on the ranks the Thunder nerf moved.

FAQ

What is the best breathing style in Slayers 2?
There is no settled answer after the v.09 patch. Pre-patch lists put Thunder alone in S tier, but v.09 added roughly a second of release delay to its Z, X, C and V skills and cut God Speed to normal running speed. Post-patch rankings place Flame and Wind above Thunder and often put Serpent first.
What level do you need for breathing styles in Slayers 2?
Level 25 is the gate for every breathing trainer, and you must physically walk to the trainer who teaches the style you want. There is no menu that hands you a moveset.
Can you change your breathing style in Slayers 2?
Yes. The Shop sells Reset Breathing for 100 Robux, but the same reset sits on the Ore tab for 7 Ore, which is farmable from chests and quest turn-ins. Resetting clears the style but not the next trainer requirements.
Is Thunder Breathing still good after the nerf?
It remains playable. Its damage and its Flaming Thunder God ultimate are unaffected by v.09, but its mobility was reduced and its approach can now be perfect blocked, so it sits in the strong-alternative band rather than the meta band.

This tier list ranks the eight trainable breathing styles in Slayers 2 as of the v.09 balance patch. It is built from published rankings and patch notes rather than from my own testing — see the honesty note at the bottom for exactly what that means for each row.

Tier List at a Glance

Tier Style Best used for One-line verdict
S Serpent PVP Teleport plus a knock-up opens fights on your terms, though conservative lists still say it needs more testing.
A Flame PVE Buffed in v.09, it clears packs with wide reach and burn once paired with the Rengoku clan.
A Wind PVP v.09 cut its startups to 0.12–0.18s and removed Whirlwind Cutter knockback, letting V start combos.
A Sound Group PVE Nearly every move extends into another, and its projectile hits hard on its own.
A Insect PVP and PVE Fast moves that link with little effort, with barrages as the payoff.
B Thunder PVP Still hits hard with an untouched ultimate, but v.09 slowed its core skills and gutted God Speed.
B Stone PVP Hyper armor on almost every attack, at the cost of slower combos and a longer counter cooldown.
C Water Grinding Buffed in v.09 with a 0.35s strict stun on tapped X, but still the lowest damage of the eight.

Reading the tiers honestly: the gap between S and B here is narrower than the letters suggest. Most of it comes down to how fast a move starts up and how reliably it chains into M1 attacks, not to raw damage numbers.

What actually decides a style’s tier

Three things separate these kits, and they explain almost every placement on this page:

  • Startup speed — how long between pressing the key and the attack coming out. This is what the v.09 patch changed most.
  • Combo chaining — whether moves extend into each other and into basic M1 attacks, or leave you in recovery.
  • Area coverage — how much of a pack a kit clears at once, which only matters in group PVE.

Version-sensitive placements

Training Requirements

Every style is gated behind level 25 and a physical trip to its trainer — there is no menu that hands you a moveset. These are the costs published as of September 2026:

Style Trainer Where Cost
Water Urokodaki Underground cave, Bamboo Grove 5,000 Wen, 30 Demon Horns
Flame Rengu Rooftop past the Mistfall bridge 10 Demon Horns
Serpent Obari Cliffside above Windy Peak 20 Demon Horns, 5 Beast Cores
Wind Sanemi Frozen water, Iceveil Valley 50 Demon Horns
Thunder Zentaro Tallest mountain peak Level 25
Sound Tengai Cliff above Frost Veil Shrine Wall Climb required
Stone Gyomei Near Hidden Mist Village Shrine Axe and Mace
Insect Shinora Butterfly Estate rooftop Level 25

Costs and unlock thresholds are early-access figures and can shift between updates — read the trainer’s own dialogue before committing to a long farm. For the leveling route that gets you to 25, see the beginner guide.

Method and sources

This page is a compilation of published research, not first-hand testing. Where sources disagree, both numbers are shown with their dates rather than averaged into a false consensus:

Rows still marked [TBD]

  • [TBD] Exact damage values for any style — no source publishes reproducible dummy benchmarks.
  • [TBD] Whether Serpent genuinely holds the top spot, or whether that is early patch reaction.
  • [TBD] Post-v.09 combo routes for Thunder, which the source itself calls unsettled.
  • [TBD] Demon-side equivalents — breathing styles are exclusive to the slayer side of the game, so this list does not apply if you play a demon.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I reset a style I already trained?

Only if the style you are leaving is one of the ones v.09 actually hit. Thunder kept its damage and its ultimate, so the source’s own advice is that spending materials to change styles for this patch is unnecessary. If you do switch, buy the reset for 7 Ore rather than 100 Robux — see the codes page for free Wen and Spins to fund the rest.

How confident should I be in this list?

Treat it as a map of the current sources, not as a tested ranking. Nothing here is first-hand — the placements are compiled from published guides and patch notes, and the sources disagree with each other on the top of the list. The v.09 numbers are quoted directly, but the tiers built on top of them are judgments drawn from those numbers. Verify a style in-game before spending a long farm on it.

TL;DR

  • Safest pick right now: Flame for PVE (cheap at 10 Demon Horns, buffed in v.09) or Serpent for PVP.
  • Still fine, no longer dominant: Thunder — damage and ultimate intact, mobility and approach gutted.
  • Re-check first when the balance pass lands: Water and Wind, the two styles v.09 buffed most.
  • Before you commit: confirm the trainer’s current cost in-game, and use the beginner guide to reach level 25 first.
